Duties

Help

(1) Tests and troubleshoots aircraft rotor and/or propeller systems using special tools and test equipment. Diagnoses any malfunctions of rotor/propeller systems and makes necessary repairs. This includes disassembly, repair, and reassembling rotor/propellers System components, and internal hydraulic and electrical components using common to special tools, and equipment. Repairs and refinishes blades/propellers using a variety of metal working tools and precision measuring instruments.(2) Performs troubleshooting of the powertrain systems using special tools and test equipment, diagnoses any system malfunctions and makes necessary repairs. This includes disassembly, repair, and reassembling powertrain components, such as drive shafts, gear boxes, mast assemblies.(3) Subjects rotor, propeller, and powertrain parts to a variety of nondestructive testing to identify imperfections not otherwise detected. Operates magnetic, dye, or electronic equipment to identify or detect stress, cracks, or potential failures. Refers findings to inspector for determination of serviceability.(4) Utilizing power hoists, special slings and balancingequipment, aligns and balances assembled propellers/rotor blades bymaking appropriate linkage adjustments and by making both chordwiseand spanwise weight adjustments to bring blades into true balance.(5) After assembly or installation of the blade systems onthe aircraft, makes final adjustments to balance, track, eliminatevibrations and ensure proper revolutions per minute (RPM) by checkingblade track utilizing special tracking equipment and making weight,trim tab, and control linkage adjustments.(6) Performs operational checks of installed aircraft bladesand associated sub-systems both inflight and during aircraftmaintenance ground runs. When designated on NGB Flying Status orders, may participate in aerial flights which are defined by applicable Armypublications as Maintenance Test Flights. Serves as a member of theflight crew for the purposes of observing, recording, and diagnosingmalfunctions, otherwise assists in determining the airworthiness Of aircraft or the functioning of specific items or components whenexpertise or services are required to accomplish in-flight test ofequipment.(7) Wears and utilizes appropriate safety equipment andfollows pertinent safety precautions.(8) May be required to serve, if employed in an AVCRAD, onmaintenance assistance and instruction teams (MAIT) and CONTACT Teamsthroughout supported area.(9) Performs other duties as assigned.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

Military Grades: ENLISTED E4 AND ABOVE

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Work involves the troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, modifying, testing, and servicing aircraft propeller assemblies and their components and straightening of propeller blades. The work requires an overall knowledge of hydraulic, electric, and mechanical controls and drive mechanisms, valves, synchrophasers, and other components of the complete propeller assembly.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

WG-5 - Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft propeller assemblies and their components in accordance with technical specifications, procedures, and requirements. Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade.

WG-8- Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft propeller assemblies and their components in accordance with technical specifications, procedures, and requirements. Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade.

WG -10 and above - Experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft propellers, assemblies, and accessories. Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft propellers, components, for rotary wing aircraft. Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis.

Quality of Experience: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated based on duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position
