Duties

Help
  • Serve as technical consultant and advisor to the Commander, Directors and staff in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating their safety program.
  • Advise management officials on the status of the safety and occupational health programs and recommends changes in the design of work programs to meet new safety and occupational health standards.
  • Plan and assign work to be accomplished by a team of specialists, set priorities, prepare schedules, and critically reviews the work for safety specialists.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and instructions to subordinates for technical work-related matters and administrative matters.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • Position requires temporary duty (TDY) business travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • Position requires the ability to drive on the installation. Installation driving privileges are automatically granted unless suspended or revoked.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes ensuring industrial or explosive operations and logistics procedures comply safety standards and regulations; performing risk assessments to eliminate unsafe operations or conditions; compiling statistical data to determine mishap trends to identify and apply proper preventive methods; experience with a safety management system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-02).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • This position is under the Acquisition Demonstration Project. The NH-03 broadband incorporates former (GS equivalents) GS-12 step 1 through GS-13 step 10 grade levels and salary levels. Pay increase within the band will be accomplished through the Contribution-based Compensation and Appraisal System (CCAS).
