Duties

Help
  • Perform maintenance and repair of dam equipment such as gate controls, main and redundant hydraulic units, radial gates and emergency gates, touch screens and control units.
  • Operate radial and emergency gates to maintain proper level and flow of water using standard operating procedures.
  • Performs a variety of activities to collect, store, and remove debris which accumulates in the upper basins.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment such as a road grade, bulldozer, dump truck, brush cutter or pavement sweeper.
  • Perform duties in the following areas: electrical, welding, plumbing, painting, machinist, rigging, carpentry, engine and equipment repair and quarry work.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles, or incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This is a drug testing position and requires a pre-employment drug test and random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction depending on weight of vehicles operated.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a DAM EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform routine installation, maintenance or repair on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical equipment. Must have journeyman level experience in one or more of the following areas: Electrical, Carpentry, Machinist, Mechanic, Welder, or Engineering Equipment Operator. I work under normal supervision of a supervisor or work leader who reviews my work for completion. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and maneuvering in cramped spaces. Regularly lifts 40 to 50 pounds. Hoists, lifts, hand trucks, and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. Works on ladders and scaffolds which requires overhead work or in stretched, cramped or awkward positions. Operation of equipment involves jarring, jolting, jerking, twisting, bouncing, vibration, and strenuous physical activity.
  • Working Conditions: Work performed inside include areas that are noisy, dirty, cold, damp, drafty, and greasy. Outside work is in all kinds of weather, including rain, wind, snow, and flooding. The incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, falls, scrapes, fumes, burns, abrasions, and danger to the fingers, hands, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces, and moving machine parts. Falling rocks and debris work exposes incumbent to accidents from being struck by debris falling into fast-running water. Employee is subject to the discomforts of wearing safety equipment such as gloves, hard-toed shoes, hard-hat, lifejacket, rain gear, etc., when required by the situation.

  • Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term [appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
  • At management's discretion, this appointment may be made permanent without further competition.
