Duties

Help
  • Perform work on a variety of electrical wiring, refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation and medical vacuum, air and gas systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and determine problem and scope of work required; plans and lays out the work, selecting appropriate tools, supplies, parts and materials to accomplish work.
  • Review and interpret drawings, blueprints and manuals as required to determine facility/system layout and location of specific structures and fixtures and specifications.
  • Make preventive maintenance inspections to determine safety hazards, damage and repair requirements.
  • Overhaul, repair, clean, adjust and maintain a variety of commercial and domestic refrigeration equipment such as walk-in and reach-in refrigerators and freezers, refrigerated centrifuges, display cases, ice machines, water fountains, air curtains.
  • Install, modify, repair and maintain vacuum, medical air and gas (oxygen, nitrogen, nitrous oxide, ethylene oxide) systems.

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Obtain and maintain a medical gas maintenance certificate within 12 months after hire.
  • Obtain and maintain a medical gas brazing certificate within 12 months after hire.
  • Must possess an EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification prior to hire.
  • Must wear protective clothing and equipment

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and repair activities of a Maintenance Mechanic. I am skilled in following oral or written instructions set forth by a work leader or journey-level employee. I have the ability to follow instruction laid out, select tools of the trade to maintain and repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems, heat systems, ventilation equipment, air compressor units, vacuum pumps, refrigerators and small varieties of cooling storage equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work requires considerable standing, stooping, kneeling and bending; works in overhead, stretched, cramped and awkward positions. Works on ladders and scaffolds. Arm movement is considerable when using certain tools and equipment. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing about 75 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed both outdoors in all types of weather and indoors usually in areas that are adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. When working from ladders and scaffolds there is danger of serious injury from falls. Subject to noise, sudden temperature changes when working with walk-in refrigerators and freezers, bruises, cuts and more serious injuries from hand or power tools; electric shock; dust and dirt; eye, skin and lung irritation from fumes, toxic chemicals and gases; back strains from lifting heavy material. May be required to work in asbestos contaminated areas. As required, wears protective clothing and equipment.
