Duties

Help
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of children, youth and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips. Knowledge of how to properly load and unload passengers. Skill in selecting the shortest and safest route.
  • Ensures children and youth know how to safely evacuate the bus. Practices bus evacuation following prescribed procedures with children and youth on a monthly basis.
  • Knowledge of height, weight, width, and length of passenger shuttle vans, and cargo vans in order to judge overhead and side clearances, turning radius and braking distance.
  • Work requires walking, lifting and carrying items weighing 40 pounds or less, driving, bending and stooping. Drives outside in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment throughout a military installation.
  • Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.g., oil change) transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment. Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation is required.
  • Must have current health assessment which documents good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations IAW current Army and DoD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
  • Schedule includes irregular hours, evenings, and/or weekends. Duties involve working both indoors and outdoors under different types of weather conditions. This position requires mandatory drug testing.
  • Satisfactory performance and successful completion of Annual training requirements within prescribed time frame are required. This position requires mandated reporting of all suspected incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • The physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis is required.
  • The appropriate driver’s license must be valid and current.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Ability to communicate in English at a level to assure the duties described can be accomplished in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • Experience in accomplishing the types of duties described in this job.
  • Requires a commercial drivers license (CDL) with no restrictions to operate a passenger vehicle that carries 16 or more.

Incentives and Bonuses
  • A $1000.00 retention incentive after 6 months of satisfactory employment is authorized for selections made from this vacancy announcement. Eligibility for this incentive will be applicable to newly hired individuals and rehired individuals (i.e., one being reinstated or re-employed after a break in service of at least 1 year).
Allowances and Differentials
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week - whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM
