Duties

Help
  • You will provide technical reviews of design specifications for shipboard electronics equipment aboard MSC ships.
  • You will provide recommendations to the Afloat Staging C4 Support Unit Supervisor and Principal Port Engineer (PPE) on repairs to damaged electronic equipment on MSC ships.
  • You will inspect MSC ships for compliance with internal official policies and procedures for vessel Navigational, Radio Communication and general electronic equipment with emphasis on reliability and reparability.
  • You will perform root cause analysis on system failures or casualties and provides detailed reports to the Afloat Staging C4 Support Unit Supervisor, MSC Type Desk, and PPE.
  • You will provide budgetary inputs for general electronic system maintenance and repair work.
  • You will represent MSC at meetings with mission sponsor representatives; regarding proposed new requirements and integration of new electrical and electronic systems with existing systems to resolve design problems.
  • You will develop work products utilizing currently authorized Navy and Marine Corps Intranet software and approved MSC Maintenance Management Software.
  • You will evaluate data received from sea trials, test programs and/or contract specifications for the purposes of providing associated detailed analyses.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • Incumbent may be required to work aboard surface vessels while underway on trial runs and regular operations.
  • Shipyard and shipboard work is a requirement of the position.
  • Incumbent may be required to do a considerable amount of walking, gaining access through small penetrations and climb ship structures (i.e. masts)., crawl and bend to accomplish shipboard inspections in a shipyard environment.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience planning, executing, coordinating and overseeing project activities and duties to accomplish the delivery, maintenance, modernization and sustainment of command and control, communications, and navigation systems in support of the Military Sealift Command mission.

  • Experience utilizing electronic concepts, principles, and practices sufficient to ensure that Military Sealift Command shipboard communications and navigation systems remain operational.

  • Experience researching and evaluating the effectiveness of current technical and support services, such as equipment, software, solutions, and Information Assurance activities.

  • Experience providing technical support and services for architecture and typology of software, hardware, and communications systems, including how these systems operate and integrate with one another.
