Duties

Help
  • Electrical: The incumbent does maintenance, repair and installation of electrical components including new lines, installing additional circuits, panel boxes, circuit breakers and other such components and equipment of a complete electrical system.
  • Sheet Metal: Incumbent performs complex sheet metal work repairing and installing gutters, flashing, grilles, deflector, pans, and straps. Fabricates sheet metal utilizing sheet metal shears, break metal equipment and power tools.
  • Masonry: Incumbent performs intricate masonry tasks and assists with mortar mixing, tooths out brick and sets up scaffolding.
  • Carpentry: Incumbent performs difficult and involved carpentry tasks including new construction, repair and alteration of wood framing, doors, windows and interior and exterior finishes, repairs and alters interior and exterior finishes.
  • Pipefitting: Incumbent performs pipefitting work completing repairs which can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply and disposal systems.
  • Plumbing: Incumbent performs extensive plumbing work including repairing and installing small water pipes, faucet and drain installation, drainpipe maintenance and repair and related.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying.

Placement in this position requires a pre-employment physical examination. This is required due to the physical requirements of this position. This includes work that requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent must be able to lift and carries parts and equipment up to 80 pounds. Light to moderate physical effort is required to operate motor vehicle.

Examples of Qualifying Experience include:

WG-10: The ability to perform the full range of maintenance duties, which include various trades: air conditioning and heating, carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, and sheet metal; make reasonable, skillful, authoritative decision in electrical operations; perform scheduled work, preventive maintenance, identify problems and initiate emergency repairs; read and interpret variety of building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals; use a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to: Hammers, scroll saws, band saws, miter saws, planers, joiners, levels, squares, troches, flat tapes, powers sewer snakes, closet augers, brushes, roller, caulking gun, gauges, and electrical testing equipment; basic ADP skills to utilize an automated information system to process work orders; make arithmetic calculations in determining dimensions, tool settings and accounting for time, tools, and materials; apply trade techniques to maintain an efficient operation according to the NEC, state and federal regulations; apply and work within OSHA safety standards.
