About the position:
This position will be assigned to the Recycling Center and is guaranteed 20 hours per week.

The physical effort is moderate to heavy lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and occasionally heavier objects with the use of a dolly and/or buddy method. Constant standing, stooping, reaching, pushing and bending. Work also requires reaching, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls of assigned vehicles.

Duties

Help

Drives assigned vehicle throughout the base to collect full recycling bins of paper, newspaper, books, etc. Drives assigned vehicles to base activities to pick up and tow trailers of recyclable materials, to include cardboard containers, to the Recycling Center. Leaves an empty trailer when picking up a full one. Unloads materials and sorts as necessary. Operates pick-up truck on and off base. Picks up cardboard from various locations which do not have a cardboard trailer. Also picks up cardboard moving boxes from Hurlburt Field base housing residents upon their moving in to base housing, to include Soundside housing. Receives, picks up, sorts, bags and stores aluminum cans. Removes all foreign objects from plastic bags in which cans are collected. Places cans in to plastic bags and stores full bags of aluminum cans inside the secured container pending sale. Removes full bags of aluminum cans from secured container and loads them in to the contractor's vehicle. May be required to assist in operating paper cutting and can crushing machine. When required sorts paper collected in recycling bins in to newspaper, colored paper, bond paper, computer paper, and mixed paper. Ensures all containments are removed prior to place clean paper in to bin hoppers, e.g., carbon paper, metals, plastics, etc. i.e., paper, aluminum cans, tin cans, plastic bottles, cardboard, etc.). Performs operator maintenance as necessary/required on assigned equipment (i.e., vehicles, forklift, paper cutting machine, baling machine). Ensures all machinery and vehicles are operational and operated in a safe and clean manner. Checks vehicle daily to ensure fluid levels are correct and annotates AF Form 1800. Performs daily housekeeping duties by sweeping floor and emptying trash cans.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Must have skill in maneuvering and driving vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds. Must have knowledge of defensive driving techniques and regulations. Must have skill in securing cargo for transit and knowledge of vehicle weight limits. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to frequently handle objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Must be able to exert light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1). Must be able to read, write and speak English and follow oral and/or written instructions. May be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays. "This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use."

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
