Summary

This position is located within a National Forest. Performs various simple routine maintenance tasks to accomplish preventive maintenance, repair, and upkeep of building and grounds. As a field going position working in brown or black bear habitat, this position is required to be firearm certified for personal and/or crew safety. Executive Order 12564 requires that employees designated to carry a firearm to be subject to random drug testing. This position will be subject to random drug testing.

Duties

Help
  • Under close guidance and instruction, learns the fundamentals of simple routine measuring and cutting materials to required lengths and dimensions. Installing structural and trim routine items by nailing, bolting, mortising, doweling, and gluing.
  • Under close guidance and instruction, learns the fundamental uses of a variety of common hand and power tools, and basic assembly and fastening procedures.
  • Under close guidance and instruction, learns the fundamentals of preparing routine surfaces, cleaning brushes and equipment.
  • Mixing and thinning paints, applying prime and finishing coats to surfaces. Checking routine items processed for obvious flaws and applying necessary preservative to surface.
  • Under close guidance and instruction, learns the fundamentals of routine repairs to various facilities and grounds.
  • Under close guidance and instruction, learns the fundamentals of related tools of the trade to assist with repair to plumbing, drainage systems, roofs, carpentry projects, grounds and street repairs, flooring, and other miscellaneous tasks.
  • Under close guidance and instruction, learns the fundamentals of operating heavy power cleaning equipment.
  • Operates motor vehicles in performance of assigned duties including boats and passenger vehicles. Loads and unloads materials and equipment.
  • Under close guidance and instruction, learns the fundamentals of routine vehicle maintenance in accordance with established instructions, rules and regulations.
  • Under close guidance and instruction, learns the fundamentals of cleaning working area upon completion of assignments, and removes waste materials from the area.
  • Under close guidance and instruction, learns the fundamentals of cleaning and caring for tools and equipment.

LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition {Title18, U.S.C., Section 922(g)(9)}. The term "convicted," as defined in the statute, excludes any person whose conviction has been expunged, set-aside, or pardoned, or any person whose civil rights have been restored unless the pardon, expungement or restoration of civil rights expressly prohibits the possession of firearms or ammunition. Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence within the meaning of the referenced statute are not qualified for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.
