Duties

Help

Coordinates class schedules to create an annual calendar with management. Teaches group and private classes according to American Red Cross Learn to Swim program guidelines. Develop lesson plans that are appropriate for each age group or skill level. Conduct swim assessments to ensure each student is placed in the appropriate class. Maintain class attendance and lesson log and submit to management. Provide feedback to parents and students to ensure they are progressing with their swim technique. Ensure health and safety of the students by ensuring that teaching and practice areas are kept free of hazards. Check that the teaching materials and equipment are safe before using. Be sure that the teaching materials and equipment are stored properly at the end of swim lessons. Keep storage area clean. Recognize and respond to emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plan. Enforce facility policies and rules .May work the front customer service area and snack bar utilizing a point-of-sale system. Knowledge of and experience with lifeguarding procedures are desired. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of locker rooms, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, and sunbathing areas, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Incumbent must be physically in Germany before a firm/final job offer can be received.
  • Must be able to pass a swim pre-test.
  • Must have a current nationally recognized Water Safety Instructor certification or be able to be obtained within 3 months of date of hire.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Requires knowledge of swimming strokes and learning theory to include: teaching strokes, principals of motor skills, and lesson plan development. Must have knowledge in water safety and understand proper use of teaching materials and equipment. Knowledge of and experience with lifeguarding procedures are desired. Needs ability to work all shifts during days, evenings, weekends and holidays and must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
