Duties

Help

Major Duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Transports of non-critical ill patients.
  • Picks-up and deliver items such as specimens, clinical reports and messenger service.
  • Transports Veterans by wheelchair, stretcher, bed, nursing units, clinical laboratories, and other related clinical areas.
  • Assists Nurses with transporting critically ill Veterans by maneuvering stretcher, wheelchair or bed to destination.
  • Provides environmental, patient and personal safety by using proper body mechanics, safety devices, techniques and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Takes corrective action during simple potentially hazardous situations.
  • Maintains effective interpersonal relationship with patients, significant others and co-workers directed towards patient care.
  • Provides back-up duties which may include filing, answering telephone and receptionist activities as needed.
  • Engages in proper telephone etiquette when answering telephone.
  • Ensures transport services assigned wheelchairs and stretchers are returned to the transport area for proper utilization and accountability purposes.
  • Reports observed changes in physical appearance and/or character of the Veteran during transport to appropriate medical personnel.
  • Documents completion of transport tasks.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: (must be in resume and transcripts) You may qualify at the GS-03 grade level based on your experience as described below.

General Experience: (must be in resume) Six months of general experience; Maintains effective interpersonal relationship with patients, significant others and co-workers directed toward patient care. Must be proficient in answering phones/communication; Using a computer to retrieve clinical reports and respond to messenger service within a medical setting.
OR
Education: Successful completion of l year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Working with residents requires regular and recurring bending, lifting (not to exceed 35 pounds), reaching, carrying, stooping, stretching and similar activities.
