Duties

Help
  • Serves as a Storage Space Monitor to ensure available storage and operating spaces are used in the most effective manner to support the mission.
  • Collects utilization information and reviews facility and storage aid layouts to support accurate representation of the space configuration, and best use of available space resources.
  • Provides information to supervisors on status/progress of work, causes of delays, overall work operations, problems and additional on-the-job training required by the individual employees.
  • Utilize specialized knowledge of warehouse plans, methods, procedures, and techniques of material handling to perform various tasks in assigned areas such as general warehouse layout, material processing center operations.
  • Item identification codes, basic warehouse procedures, and storage areas in order to perform a wide variety and range of warehousing duties.
  • Incumbent operates mechanized equipment including electro-mechanical automated equipment, such as high rise automated storage and retrieval vehicles.
  • Mechanized equipment use remote computer terminals to receive and transmit storage, inventory and requisition data in automated warehouses.
  • Advises employees to follow instructions received from the supervisor and checks work while in progress ensuring instructions on work sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort: Performs work on hard surfaces and in areas that require prolonged standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to lift and carry supplies, materials and equipment that may weigh up to 70 pounds. May be subject to being lifted by equipment as high as 25 feet. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. May be subject to strain from vibration of MHE.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside. Inside areas may be dirty, dusty, hot, cold, damp, drafty or poorly lighted. Work may be performed in bad weather in such outside areas as storage yards and open docks. Worker is frequently subject to cuts, bruises, scrapes, falls from ladders, falling boxes, injuries from mechanical conveyor systems or other material handling equipment. Incumbent is required to wear appropriate safety equipment and clothing required for the area in which work is performed

Drug-Free Workplace Policy

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.

Applicants tentatively selected for employment in testing designated positions will undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Refusal to undergo testing or testing positive for illegal drugs will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and a six-month denial of employment with DLA from the date of the drug test. Employees in drug testing designated positions are subject to random drug testing.

The DLA drug testing panel tests for the following substances: marijuana, cocaine, opiates, heroin, phencyclidine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, fentanyl, norfentanyl, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), and opioids.

ADVISORY: Use of cannabidiol (CBD) products may result in a positive drug test for marijuana. DLA employees are subject to Federal law and under Federal law, Marijuana is a Schedule I drug and is illegal.
