Duties

Help
  • Acts as water safety instructor. Manages all swimming lessons and instructs when scheduled, at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Develops swim program according to students' ability and promotes students to higher level of swimming according to their skills.
  • Instructs all levels of swimming and appropriate strokes, to include; front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly.
  • Teach students from age groups of infant through adults. Introduces and instructs safety and survival skills to students, when appropriate to level of instruction.
  • Instructors work with lifeguards to ensure that swim lessons are safe at all times.

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Appointment subject to favorable suitability determination.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation is required.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and the ability to lift and carry 40lbs.
  • Must be willing to accept a “Flexible” appointment.
  • Must be able to work Saturdays, depending on the organizations needs.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • Work experience related to the duties described above: manage swim lessons; develop swim program; introduce and instruct safety and survival skills.
AND possession of the following certificates:
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification
  • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • First Aid Certification
(Certificates issue by American Red Cross, Ellis @ Associates, Star Guard or other nationally recognized agencies are acceptable)

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":
  • Possess Lifeguard certification
OR
  • Possess Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certification

  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
