About the position: This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation at Mountain Home AFB, ID.

This is a Regular-Part Time position, with 20 hours guaranteed weekly, however may work up to 40 hours.

Duties

Help

Works under the direction of the Outdoor Recreation Manager who is available to deal with unusual situations which may occur and to provide guidance and instructions when performing new or procedurally complex duties. As a working leader, performs the following types of lead duties: Provides day-to-day advice and guidance to employees for work assignments; relays instructions from the supervisor for work assignments; gets the work started and sets the work pace; demonstrates work methods and provides work-related guidance; ensures the worksite materials and tools are available; ensures that employees follow security and safety rules. Reports all safety violations to immediate supervisor. Provides input on performance, progress, and disciplinary problems. Enforces established operating policies and procedures. Performs limited management functions which may include establishing the work schedule, approving/disapproving leave requests, opening and closing the facility, and making daily deposits.

When not performing lead duties: Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions. When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning bath houses, main pools, pool decks. Etc. Performs other related duties assigned.

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • This position requires completion of installation records checks, state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lifesaving duties for children.
  • Must obtain an approved, nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training within 30 days of employment.

Qualifying Experience: Ability to lead 3 or more recreation aids or recreation assistants. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (infant, child and adult) training. Must have required immunizations. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC), and Installation Records Check (IRC).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
