Duties

Help

Oversees development of appropriate curricula for child development centers, preschools, family childcare programs, school-age, and
other unique children's programs. Develops, implements, and oversees all elements of children's developmental program activities to
include environment, equipment and materials, program structure, activities and experiences, and supportive interactions and positive
social development for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school-agers, and children with special needs receiving care. Provides guidance on complementary learning environments. Assists direct care staff and family childcare providers in specific activity plan development, activity individualization, and evaluation of children's developmental progress. Oversees implementation through direct observation and role modeling in child activity areas and family childcare homes. Designs training material, uses or adapts material provided by headquarters or other sources, and identifies appropriate courses from outside sources to meet training requirements. Develops, implements, maintains, and monitors an individual training plan for all management, care giving personnel, and providers. Assists directors in identifying personnel training needs, in particular, ensuring the completion of all required training such as all Air Force Training Modules. Tracks progress and periodically reassess individual growth needs through discussion with individual staff members. Develops plans to improve overall operations, corrects identified deficiencies, and enhances developmental programs and services. Guides management in applying comprehensive environmental and program assessment instruments. Provides assistance in the pursuit/retention of accreditation from the National Association for the Education Young Children (NAEYC) and Council on Accreditation (COA). Serves as the principle point of contact for the developmental program portion of Headquarters Air Force, Major Command (MAJCOM), or other inspections of developmental assessment team reviews. Schedules and coordinates preliminary internal review to determine the level and quality of programs/services, and assesses compliance with Air Force directives, instructions, standards, and requirements. Identifies children who may have special needs. Ensures the implementation of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and any other laws and/or directives pertaining to the special needs of children. Refers families to agencies and services in the local community for evaluations and assessments, medical programs, and/or schools when appropriate. Develops, implements, and evaluates personnel training programs and strategies on how best to accommodate children with special needs. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Successful completion of an undergraduate degree that included or was supplemented by major study (at least 24 hrs) in child development or early childhood education or other fields appropriate to the position to be filled consistent with position in CDC (or a combination of education and experience). Appropriate experience and course work must be comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study as described above. Knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, and practices of early childhood development encompassing infant through school-age youth and child development theory, methodology, and practices. Knowledge of childcare regulation requirements and policies. Skill in developing curricula which supports physical, emotional, social, cognitive development, and identifying children with special needs. Skill in developing, adapting, and providing training to staff members, family childcare providers, and parents as well as food service and custodial staff. Skill in the administration and interpretation of the environmental, program, and child abuse probability assessments. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Must meet specific physical requirements, must pass a physical examination and have required immunizations. Must be able to lift 40lbs or more and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate, and satisfactorily complete installation, state and national criminal background checks. Must satisfactorily complete mandatory training as specified below. Must possess maturity and good judgment and like working with children/youth and their parents. "This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use."

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
