Help

This position is located at the 161 ARW in Phoenix, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor and/or flight chief, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Security Forces Flight.

  • ARIZONA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard, in a military position assigned to 161st ARW.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guar, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver's license.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours. Overtime may be required.
  • Must obtain and maintain first responder training/certifications required in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually.
  • Incumbent must be qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.
  • May be required to wear special protective clothing such as coats, boots, vests, respirator masks, and/or helmets.
  • Must undergo initial and periodic job compatibility assessments.
  • The maximum entry age for DoD Law Enforcement is 37. An individual not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37 will not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions.

Qualifications

Military Grades: SSgt/E-5 to MSgt/E-7

Compatible Military Assignments: Must possess or able to obtain 3P0X1

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Must possess 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.

Education

You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):

1. knowledge and skill to advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.

2. Ability to recognizes and takes action to correct situations posing a threat to the health or safety of subordinates

3. Meets with key customer and coordinating officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedures, and resolve problems that arise.

4. Ability to apprehension and detention which entails carrying a firearm, operating Security Forces vehicles and equipment, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations on a military installation.

5. Ability to enforces weapons systems security standards, traffic rules and regulations, including those related to speed, reckless and drunken driving. Stops violators, notifies them of the traffic offense committed, and issues armed forces traffic tickets and DoD violation notices as appropriate.
