In this Information Technology position, you will manage and maintain a standardized and secure macOS environment through system imaging, patching, security hardening, and automation using tools like Jamf Pro, Microsoft Intune, Azure Active Directory, on-premises Active Directory, and scripting languages while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of macOS within the enterprise environment and
contributing to the creation and maintenance of end-user documentation. This position starts at a salary of $101,401.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $131,826.00 (GS-12, Step 10).

Typical work assignments include:

  • Providing on-site and remote technical support for all Apple Laptops and Workstations, addressing support requests using strong macOS technical skills to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network connectivity issues, ensuring minimal disruption to end-users
  • Supporting common macOS applications such as, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro), Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), and web browsers (Safari, Chrome, Edge)
  • Administering and maintaining the organization's macOS environment, including system imaging, patching, certificate management, and Active Directory authentication. Implement and enforce macOS cybersecurity hardening guidelines to ensure the security and integrity of all systems
  • Ensuring compliance with organizational standards and security policies using terminal commands and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, AppleScript) to automate repetitive tasks, streamline system administration processes, and improve overall efficiency
  • Communicating and collaborating with cross-functional teams, including cybersecurity, Windows desktop management, and field support, to ensure seamless integration of macOS within the enterprise environment

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: Individuals qualifying based of experience must have Information Technology (IT) related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  1. Attention to Detail- Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  2. Customer Service Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication- Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving- Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Along with the four competencies listed above you must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience described below to qualify based on experience.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting for Apple laptops and workstations, including diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network connectivity issues to minimize disruption to end-users
  • Assisting with the administration and maintenance of macOS systems, including system imaging, patching, certificate management, and Active Directory authentication, while ensuring compliance with organizational standards and security policies
  • Utilizing scripting languages (e.g., Bash, AppleScript) and terminal commands to automate routine tasks and improve system administration processes
  • Applying basic cybersecurity principles and guidelines to macOS systems, including implementing security controls and monitoring system logs to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and systems
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including creating and maintaining end-user documentation such as FAQs, how-to guides, and troubleshooting articles to assist users in resolving common issues independently.

You must:
  • Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
  • Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10/10/2025.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Additional information

Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess a valid state driver's license at the time of appointment.

On Call: This position may require the incumbent to be on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

Overtime: This position may require uncontrollable, unscheduled overtime in excess of the 40-hour work week.

  • This position involves periods of standing, crawling, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching to access and install computer equipment.
  • You may be required to lift and transport computer equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
