Duties

Help
  • You will prevent, detect and investigate violations of laws, rules and regulations.
  • You will make arrests and performing booking procedures.
  • You will pass directions and information to officers on patrol assignments, coordinating emergency responses between police and other emergency units.
  • You will conduct preliminary investigations of incidents ranging from minor offenses to felony and major crimes.
  • You will instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and makes available written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
  • You will give on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
  • You will be assigned gate Sentry or patrol duties alongside military and Civil Service personnel.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing law enforcement (LE), physical security (PS) and force protection (FP) functions; 2) Identifying/Deploying specialized or advanced techniques, equipment, knowledge, and/or training; 3) Conducting preliminary and/or ongoing investigations of incidents; and 4) Documenting law enforcement and security events and the issuance of citations.

You must attend, or have attended in the past 10 years, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) course. This is the police academy for all police personnel in the department and is a condition of employment. This course is approximately three months in length. Upon graduation from FLETC, you will sign a 3-year agreement to serve in the 0083 series with Department of the Navy.

This announcement uses the Modified direct hire authority for certain personnel of DOD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
