- Apply coating materials using brushes, spray guns and other means of application.
- Prepare various surfaces exterior aircraft parts by mechanically and chemically remove old paint and rust; sanding and applying fillers and base coats.
- Operate machine to blast aircraft parts with critical tolerances or parts that require heavy blasting.
- Blast aircraft, parts, and/or components using stationary blasting booths, and/strips specified areas using chemical stripping agents.
- Service aircraft systems, disconnect, remove and/or disassemble.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4100 Painting And Paperhanging Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

Additional Information:
This position is emergency essential. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the Emergency-Essential duties until relieved by proper authority. The incumbent or the designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively. This meets the criteria of an Emergency-Essential position and requires that the incumbent, or the designated alternate, be removed from any military recall status. Employee must sign DD Form 2365 as a condition of employment.

Physical Effort: The painter prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and in situations where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places. This requires the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, be strapped into swing stages, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Ability to lift, carry, and set up materials and equipment that weigh up to 25 pounds. Occasionally, may be required to handle materials and equipment that weighs over 25 pounds with mechanical or human assistance. Selectee is required to meet specific physical standards and medical requirements consistent with being able to perform the essential functions of the overseas position.

Working Conditions:
The work may be performed in an outside or inside setting. May sometimes be required to perform work in all types of weather and environment while complying with environmental laws and safety regulations. Incumbent is exposed to dirt, sanding dust, toxic vapors, gas, other fumes, chemicals, and various hazardous materials. Works in confined spaces which requires recurring training on gas monitoring devices and portable breathing apparatus which may become uncomfortable, but use is mandatory. Exposure to the possibility of injury is always a possibility.
