Summary

This position is located at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System, Mental Health Nursing services, Domiciliary Unit. The Domiciliary Unit is a 296-bed residential rehabilitation facility that provides extended care to Veterans with complex medical, psychiatric, alcohol and drug abuse and homelessness problems. The Health Technician will perform domiciliary care and related administrative duties in support of the mission of the Domiciliary.

Help

  • Provides care and support to residents with complex medical, psychiatric, alcohol and drug abuse and homelessness problems covering a wide range in ages and levels of function.
  • Provide initial crisis intervention in situations of an emergent medical, psychiatiric and/or behavior nature.
  • Consists of selecting a variety of topics and settings for conducting therapeutic relationships including one-to-one therapy.
  • With Supervision Oversees most aspects of Dom Section administration, including proper building operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure coordination of clinical and administrative aspects of care, within the incumbent's capacity, so that Veterans are able to benefit from all domiciliary resources available
  • Conducts weekly locker inspections for health, welfare, safety and security purposes.
  • Secures monies and valuables from lockers of deceased residents, hospitalized, residents, and Individuals who departed on irregular discharge without proper clearance in accordance with current VAGLAHS regulations.
  • Performs gross inspections of residents personally owned electrical appliances to ensure that equipment is intact, electrical cords are not frayed, and required safety tags affixed.
  • Performs regular administrative functions, e.g. processes residents for clearance, completes entries in communication log, completes progress notes.
  • Responsible for processing and evaluating any Incident Involving the Injury or abuse of any resident.

Work Schedule: Full time. Expected to work shifts including: evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, as the Domiciliary provides services to Veterans, 7 days/week, 24-hours a day.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/24/2025.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Performing domiciliary care; providing patient orientation on procedures, treatment and goals; monitor compliance with treatment plan requirements; utilizing an automated system to maintain and retrieve patient data; proficient of medical and surgical conditions and the follow-up treatments AND providing care and support to residents with complex medical, psychiatric, alcohol and drug abuse and homelessness.
  • OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
