Duties

Help
  • Assist visitors with problems such as camping, swimming, boating, hiking etc.
  • Provides information in the form of talks to visitors on the area.
  • Keep informed on a park matters in order to answer questions asked by visitors about the area, points of interest, available facilities, regulations, etc.
  • Perform light maintenance such as planting and watering trees, planting ground cover in eroded areas; building and installing signs; moving and cleaning tables; patrolling camp sites by removing debris, picking up litter and cleaning fire rings.
  • Assist in the performance of inspections of recreation areas, property under lease, licenses and permits, concession contracts, etc.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent is required to wear prescribed uniform as identified in regulation and must wear appropriate safety gear and protective clothing as required.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; ; AND six months of specialized experience which includes I have a minimum of six months of specialized experience in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement or other park-related work. (Resume must clearly document this experience.).

OR

Education: Two years of education above the high school level with twelve semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.   • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • This is a temporary position NTE 1 year.
  • Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 3 years.
  • This position is eligible for situational telework only.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Temporary Appointment will be appointed/converted into a Temporary Appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
