About the Position: This position is located within the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, DCA, Logistics Division, Vision Readiness, Optical Fabrication at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Duties

Help
  • Perform a variety of duties involved in the fabrication of prescription eye glasses and other eyewear such as sunglasses, gas masks, inserts, etc.
  • Receive prescriptions from the Customer Service Department within the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital (GLWACH).
  • Operate Management Software, Optivision for operation of lab equipment using Automated Blocking machinery to prepare lenses for edging.
  • Perform an 100% quality assurance checks utilizing ANSI (American National Standards Institute) standards on completed eyeglasses.
  • Sort and tray work tickets (DD-771) for processing.
  • Assemble frames and attach pieces.
  • Adjust lenses and frames to correct alignment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to receive a Hepatitis B immunization series as well as an immunization screening.
  • This position requires the incumbent to receive a seasonal influenza vaccination upon entrance on to duty and annually thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to receive a medical clearance examination prior to employment. The position requires an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and/or protective gear.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position has been designated “Mission Essential.” In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The incumbent must frequently handle/lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally objects weighing up to 65 pounds.
  • A Tier 1, NACI Personnel Security Investigation is required.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Prescription Eyeglass Maker Leader without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex Prescription Eyeglass Maker activities within a facility. I am skilled in the following: I have the ability to perform most difficult and complex fabrication of prescription eyeglasses and other eyewear such as sunglasses, gas masks, and inserts; receiving prescriptions and sorting and traying work tickets for processing; and skills in utilizing machinery to prepare lenses for edging. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Physical Effort: The work requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching. Depending on daily assignment may sit or stand for extended periods of time. Close eye and hand coordination is required. The incumbent must frequently handle objects weighing up to 10 Pounds and occasionally objects weighing up to 65 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in a well-lighted ventilated Optical Fabrication laboratory. Hands are subjected to minor cuts, bruises or abrasions and burns. May be required to wear safety glasses and hearing protection in designated areas of the laboratory.
