Duties

Help

Leads staff in practical knowledge of day-to-day operational activities, rules, procedures and equipment. Able to instruct staff and customers on proper use and maintenance of recreational facilities and equipment. Performs a variety of duties in support of the daily operations of the fitness center as a shift leader. Maintains order and enforces policy, procedures and safety rules. Duties include but are not limited to: open and ready facility for daily operations; secures facility for nightly closure. Develop facility checklists. Ensures checklists are initiated/completed to accomplish periodic (shift, daily, weekly, monthly etc.) duties and requirements and ensures documentation is completed accordingly. Provides training to other shift/staff members and assists with tasks such as the reservation system for sports courts and fields. Setting up facilities, grounds and equipment for programs and special functions, inventories, and league schedules. Receives, stores, and issues recreational supplies and equipment. Inventories and maintain simple inventory records, initiates actions to restock low supplies; and displays checkout items and sundries. Inspect locker room and restrooms for cleanliness and cleans equipment/facility as required. Comply with safety, fire and facility sanitation procedures. Ensures equipment is inspected and clean, performs preventative maintenance and makes MINOR repairs to equipment as necessary. Assists in the physical conditioning programs by demonstrating equipment, methods and procedures to be used as well as proper safety techniques. Assists in the development of group/ individual fitness improvement programs. Collects fees for services and resale merchandise. Prepare daily cashier reports and consolidated activity reports. Applies appropriate cash protection procedures (internal controls), ensures all monies are recorded and safeguarded and funds deposited. Operates a point-of-sale system; performs receiving and disbursing cashier duties; accepts payments and makes change; may prepare and issues change funds, bank deposits and daily reports. Uses a variety of word processing software to prepare, scan and print a variety of letters, reports, memos, and other text documents. Ensures laundering of intramural checkout uniforms and facility towels. Assist customers by explaining equipment function and features available. Works as a fitness center shift leader and performs other related duties as assigned. Ensure league standings are updated daily. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Have at least one year's experience working in a fitness center. Supervisory experience is preferred. Possess practical knowledge of recreation activities. Must have knowledge of proper cash handling procedures, operate a cash register, and solve simple math problems. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Able to perform simple computer data processing using various programs, Windows, Adobe, MS Office and other DoD web-based programs. Typing skills are desirable. Ability to communicate both electronically and in person with professional conduct.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
