Duties

Help

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the flight, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities for 5 or more full-time employees.
  • Represents the squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
  • Assists with contracting functions and budget preparation.
  • As a senior IT specialist, participates in management discussions, meetings, committees, or special projects.

  • Incumbent is subject to a one (1) year supervisory probationary period if this requirement has not previously been completed.
  • This position is ONLY open to current federal employees in the Department of Defense (DoD).
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security clearance.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.
  • This position requires a high degree of discretion in relation to sensitive information of which the incumbent is aware.
  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
  • Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving AND have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-11) or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the organization to ensure that managed systems and associated IT/networking services comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs; utilizing a wide range of IT principles, concepts, and methods with specialization in one or more IT areas such as enterprise architecture, systems administration, systems analysis, and network integration; applying the organization's policy and planning formulation process along with its missions and objectives to the preparation of IT policies and plans; and assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, while taking into consideration employee capabilities, difficulty, and mission requirements.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of IT principles, concepts, and methods; specializing in one or more IT areas such as enterprise architecture, systems administration, systems analysis, and network integration.
  • Knowledge of organization's policy and planning formulation process along with its missions and objectives to prepare IT policies and plans.
  • Knowledge of budgetary processes, cost-benefit analysis methods, and analysis of performance data to prepare budget recommendations in support of IT requirements.
  • Knowledge of systems architecture, integration techniques and testing methods.
  • Skill in analyzing complexities of existing technology, revise and develop policy, initiate plans for enhancements, and provide managers sufficient technical and cost analysis information, through written documentation and oral briefings, to render informed judgments.
  • Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
