As a MUSEUM CURATOR, GS-1015-12, you will plan, administer, and manage state National Guard (NG) museum, exhibits, or historical collection in accordance with Army Center for Military History (CMH), Army Museum Enterprise (AME), and state policy; analyze the collection to identify collecting areas, develop and implement the long range plan for the collection in accordance with the state's ARNG museum mission statement; build the collection by coordinating with staff and leadership to identify and secure items of historical interest or relevance used in current/recent operations; develop NG standard operating procedures as directed by the Chief of Staff and develop core museum documents in accordance with AR870-20; lead development of museum exhibits that includes developing original plans/exhibit scripts and/or collaborating with exhibit designers on final designs for exhibits, including research necessary for preparation of exhibits and determining gallery space required; plan the state, territory, or district-level educational and interpretive programs which are presented to interpret objects; participate in public programming, including informative tours of the state's NG museum or exhibits for members of the public and distinguished visitors to the state JFHQ, RIT or other high traffic area; facilitate volunteer participation within the museum in accordance with applicable policy and guideline; manage the administration of volunteer programs within the museum; perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Military Grades: Officer (CPT to MAJ)

Minimum Requirements: Experience or training which demonstrates a knowledge of museum education, curation, or collections management.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Degree: museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field. or
  2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown in 1 above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. or
  3. Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown in 1 above.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience in research, collection, identification, cataloging, preventative conservation, documentation and display of each item in the museum/collection; developing original plans/exhibit scripts and/or collaborating with exhibit designers on final designs for exhibits, including research necessary for preparation of exhibits and determining gallery space direct teaching and lectures to promote awareness of state NG history; answering telephonic and written inquiries providing technical and general information upon request to military agencies, clubs, teachers, researchers, students, and other interested individuals.
