Duties

Help

As a OPERATIONS RESEARCH ANALYST at the GS-1515-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Plan, direct, and control program responsibilities of the Division through the management of interdisciplinary professionals and contractors.
  • Serves as the senior project officer, leading a broad range of operations research analyses assignments conducted by subordinate elements entailing unique or groundbreaking problems, originality and creativity, innovative use of techniques, models and advanced approaches, and/or new technologies.
  • Utilizes scientific inquiry in the independent development of mathematical models and computer programs to evaluate and predict the ability to support assigned projects, studies, or problems.
  • Work will require the design, development, and adaptation of mathematical, statistical, econometric, and other scientific methods and techniques to provide advice and insight into problems, situations that are often unique, contentious, very difficult to define or transcend the specific organization of USTRANSCOM.
  • Provides technical guidance, advisory support, and assistance on an entire project and/or major phases for broad and varied operations.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:

  • Applying advanced operations research principles and modeling and simulation techniques to analyze complex problems in the military transportation and deployment and distribution domain.
  • Applying expert experience with the Joint Deployment and Distribution Enterprise (JDDE), to include stakeholder organizational roles and responsibilities and related organizational and physical transportation processes.
  • Creating and executing professional briefings and written correspondence on behalf of and to senior flag officers/executives.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Basic Requirements: Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
