Help
  • Supervises the work of power plant electricians, power plant mechanics and other workers performing routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Reviews trouble reports and personally inspects equipment for possible malfunctioning, diagnosing and determining how repairs will be made.
  • Determines requirements of tools, apparatus, equipment, spare parts and stores required to perform maintenance of the power plant and dams.
  • Performs or directs the performance of machinists' work in the powerhouse machine shop, consisting of lathes, shaper, drills, grinders, etc.
  • Initiates inspection and repair of project equipment by maintenance personnel to conform with requirements of the Maintenance Control System.
  • Conducts personnel administration by planning and assigning work, prioritizing and adjusting workload.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Crew Supervisor (CF-I) without more than normal supervision and Ability to lead or supervise. Must be able to perform common duties of supervising journey level Power Plant Mechanic and Power Plant Electrician personnel. Must have skill and knowledge in working with complex mechanical and electrical systems and the ability to direct the use of tools related to those systems. Must be able to transmit instructions into work assignments for assigned crew and set the pace for work accomplishment. Must have the ability to explain and instruct lower graded journeymen and to keep work progressing to meet schedule. Must be able to inspect, accept or reject work of others and assure adherence to safety regulations and practices. Must have the ability to perform common duties supervising journeyman level personnel. Must be able to schedule work assignments on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. Must be able to develop employees through active mentoring, to establish clear roles and responsibilities for all personnel through written and verbal communication. Must be able to work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts:

Work requires moderate physical effort including lifting and carrying tools, equipment, and supplies up to and over 45 lbs. There are regular and prolonged periods of standing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, pulling pushing, kneeling, working in tight places and climbing ladders. There is danger of cuts, bruises and burns from equipment used and possible irritation or injury to eyes and skin from acids and solvents. Must be able to distinguish colors, and have normal vision and depth perception.

Working Conditions:

Works both inside and outside the powerhouse. Is exposed to the usual extremes of climate, heat cold, dust, high noise levels, and moving machinery and energized equipment. Employee must endure the discomfort of protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, goggles, face masks, shields, helmets, respirators, hard-hats and gloves depending on work performed and safety requirements which must be met. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements, including pulmonary capacity and other routine occupational and pre-employment medical examinations.
