DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs troubleshooting of airframes and engines, airframe and engine systems and components, and mechanical accessories. Interprets mechanical blueprints, schematics, specifications, manuals, and pertinent reference material.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on all Flight Center aircraft and equipment, including spare engines and parts. Maintenance and repair includes sheet metal work, welding, fabric work, computation of weight and balance data, rigging of flight and engine controls; maintenance on engines, flight controls, hydraulic, electrical systems, landing gear, wing flaps, instruments, propellers and propeller control systems, cabin heat and ventilation systems, pilot static systems, carburetor and fuel injection systems; and magnetic compass calibration.
  • Maintains aircraft and engine logbooks in accordance with FAA directives, entering and certifying as airworthy all inspections and maintenance performed on aircraft and engines.
  • Schedules 50 hour, 100 hour, annual, and progressive inspections; using own judgement with regard to flight schedule and other priorities to minimize down time of aircraft and to distribute maintenance workload most equitably.
  • Performs 50 hour, 100 hour, annual, and progressive inspections on Flight Center aircraft; using experience and judgement regarding repair or replacement of worn or broken parts in all systems of airframe components.
  • Assists authorized aircraft inspectors in performance of annual aircraft inspections.
  • Maintains daily maintenance logs of all Flight Center aircraft.
  • Checks aircraft discrepancy forms daily, using own judgement and initiative to schedule required maintenance or other corrective action. Evaluates all discrepancies to determine whether safety of flight is involved.
  • Maintains aircraft status in the Dispatch Program, indicating flyable condition and status of all Flight Center aircraft.
  • Maintains records of parts used and labor hours expended by date and aircraft number.
  • Maintains cleanliness of maintenance shop and hangar maintenance area; including shop equipment, storage areas, and radio and battery shops.
  • Maintains bench stock levels of expendable items including oil, lubricants, vents, paints, nuts, bolts, and miscellaneous hardware.

  • This position requires incumbent to have a current FAA Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic Certificate with Inspection Authorization.
  • This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to a pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have a valid, current state driver's license, or the ability to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to satisfactorily complete pre-employment physical.

Qualifying Experience:

  • Position requires a current FAA Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic Certificate with Inspection Authorization.
  • Position requires a complete set of common hand tools.
  • Must be capable of using all types of hand and special tools, measuring instruments, hydraulic, electric, and pneumatic test equipment.
  • Must be capable of performing strenuous activity over extended periods of time and working under pressure to accomplish maintenance repair of aircraft to ensure a minimum of down time.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
