What to Expect

  • This position assists the Child Development Center (CDC) Director in overseeing a developmentally appropriate child and youth program (CYP) as well as the management of the program and facilities. CYP provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from six weeks to 18 years.
  • Major duties and responsibilities include program management, financial and facility management, personnel management, program operations, children with disabilities and other identified needs.
  • Assists with providing program oversight and accountability for the performance of employees, the safety of children, and customer needs.
  • Supervises staff to include assigning work, conducting performance reviews and approving leave. Establishes local performance standards for employees and volunteers using established standards and requirements and rates employee's performance.
  • Gives input into the development of CYP standard operating procedures (SOPs) as required for the efficient operation and management of facility and programs. Ensures implementation of these SOPs. 
  • Ensures CYP staff follow health and safety standards when performing diapering, toileting, hand washing, cleaning/sanitizing/disinfecting surfaces and materials, food service, safe sleep practices, and caring for ill children/youth.  Observes program participants and identifies signs of illness, abuse or neglect, emotional distress, and follows mandated reporting protocols.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in youth development, elementary or secondary education, family and consumer science (human development emphasis), special education, or other fields appropriate to the position. 
              OR
  • A combination of education and experience (e.g. courses equivalent to a major in a field (24 higher level semester hours) appropriate to the position (see above) plus appropriate experience or additional course work that that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. 
            AND
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain TIER-1 Child Care (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age. Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physical, thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. 
  • Must complete all DoD training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, DoD Standardized Module Training, and annual ongoing training requirements, and required certifications, if any.
  • Must maintain current food handlers, CPR and First Aid certifications. May be required to obtain a government driver's license. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills. Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.


Note: This position is identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random drug testing because duties must be performed with a high level of productivity, reliability and judgment to prevent adversely affecting personnel safety, and causing risk/damage to government property, and/or significant adverse impact to day-to-day operations. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position.
