Help
  • Physical Testing and Visual Inspection of Construction Materials; Gravel and Aggregate testing, Concrete Testing; Soil Testing; Asphalt Testing.
  • Coordinates with contractor personnel as to the sequences, procedures and methods of obtaining materials samples for various job phases.
  • Continually reviews operations, field data reports, etc., to evaluate and assure compliance with governing regulatory controls.
  • Makes periodic visits to various points on or off the project and to concrete batching plants and borrow areas to answer questions and give advice, render decisions on such matters as to whether to reject carloads of aggregate or cement.
  • Reviews qualifications of contractor's personnel and recommends suitability for job.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to pass a physical prior to placement.
  • Must obtain and maintain ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade -1 certification and ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician- Grade-1 certification. Must be acquired within 6 months of hire date.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing sampling and testing techniques for materials for construction activities throughout the geographical area; observing and monitoring contractor quality control (QC) testing to identify problems, and ensures timely corrective action; reviewing material provisions of plans and specifications; interpreting plans, specifications and recommends whether materials and test methods meet the requirements of the contract documents This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10)Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
