Duties

Help
  • Under the guidance and assistance of the aircraft commander/flight instructor, operates aircraft to become a fully qualified, mission-ready Navigator in unit type aircraft.
  • Low level flying (down to 100 feet above ground level (AGL) and up to 540 Knots for fighter type aircraft, down to 300 feet AGL and 210-290 Knots for airlift/tanker type aircraft).
  • Combat maneuvers, threat avoidance, and aerial flight survival must be firmly understood.
  • Night aerial refueling (airplane typical) must be accomplished.
  • Bombing, air-to-ground and air-to-air gunnery, air combat maneuvering, and other requirements exist for fighter organizations.
  • Participates in discussions, meetings or serves on panels or committees regarding unit aircraft and flying mission.
  • Prepares and delivers oral presentations such as briefings and training sessions to secure cooperation, resolve issues, and convey information relative to flight training and flying operations.
  • Participates in discussions and meetings, or serves on panels or committees concerning flying operations.
  • Presents briefings to staff members and other key personnel in the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Creditable Service for Annual Leave accrual may be granted to new employees if he/she possesses superior qualifications essential to the position; and which were acquired through performance in a non-federal or active duty uniformed service position.
  • The duties performed in a non-federal or active duty uniformed service position must directly relate to the position to which appointed and such qualifications are necessary to achieve an important agency mission or performance goal to be eligible.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period period.
  • Must be rated Navigator on flying status in unit to which assigned. Must participate in regular and frequent flights as required by the commander.
  • Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass standardization/evaluation examinations which consist of both written tests and actual flight performance to demonstrate flight knowledge and abilities required of the position.
  • Must pass physical examination and meet annual flying requirements.
  • Must be entered in instructor upgrade training when qualified.
  • The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY).
  • Work will require access to classified information. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate Top Secret or Secret security clearance.

  • This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in the Missouri National Guard prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Advanced in hire rate may be granted to set pay above the minimum rate of the grade for a new employee if he/she possesses superior qualifications relevant to the positions' requirements and is essential to accomplish the agency's mission.

Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidate must currently be assigned to a military unit in the Missouri Air National Guard. Title 32 employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor (grade inversion).

Maximum Military Grade - Maj (O-4)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience which provided you with a working knowledge of the navigation systems, navigational instruments, etc., appropriate to the C-130 aircraft.

GS-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess 36 months of specialized experience that demonstrates your ability to obtain information on type of mission, weather and intelligence data, and special instructions; prepare navigation flight plans; test and inspect the operation of compasses, navigation systems, or radio or radar equipment; utilize various navigational methods and aids to accomplish flying missions; compute the effect of various factors during flight to establish present course and project balance of course; train, evaluate and certify proficiency and competency of unit assigned navigators; and experience that provided you with knowledge of proper readings and operations of navigational systems. You must have completed the necessary hours required for your current airframe (350 hours total navigation time which includes 100 hours of time in the C-130).

APPLICANT MUST SUBMIT A RECORD OF AERONAUTICAL EXPERIENCE, (OR APPROPRIATE COMPUTER PRINTOUT), AS PART OF BASIC APPLICATION FOR THIS POSITION.

Candidates must currently be qualified and possess a USAF Combat Systems Officer (CSO)/Navigator Rating, or equivalent Naval Flight Officer (NFO) or FAA Flight Navigator rating.

Candidates establishing eligibility based on military flight experience must provide official orders, forms, or logbooks showing their status as a qualified rated military navigator.

Education

This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
