Duties

Help
  • Apply biopsychosocial evaluations to propose behavioral health interventions.
  • Provide evidence-based treatment, including behavioral, cognitive, and motivational approaches.
  • Provide primary care providers and staff regular and concise feedback on the status of referred patients, to include recommendations for team-based care.
  • Implement psychoeducational classes to target high frequency diagnoses found in the primary care clinic.
  • Document information in the electronic health record during patient encounters.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is as a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC). As such, the employee will be physically located within the Primary Care clinic and serve as a consultant to the Primary Care team.
  • Provides individual and group treatment, using various modalities as clinically indicated to include brief problem-focused interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychoeducational classes.
  • This position requires successful completion of mandatory DHA Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) BHC training confirmed by a DHA PCBH Program Manager within 3 months of hire (unless DHA is unable to provide the training within 3 months).
  • This DHA PCBH BHC training is completed virtually but may require a week of duty hours outside the normal clinic operating hours (if not located in Eastern Time Zone).
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or IAW the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede Basic Life Support completion
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential in the event of severe weather conditions, other such emergency type situations or man-made disaster the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work to support mission operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Behavioral Health Consultant):
Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting behavioral health assessments; providing individual and group treatment; and working as part of a multidisciplinary team This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Highly Preferred Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
