  • Provides administrative support to ensure efficient secure operations.

  • This position may be part-time.
  • Employee may be required to be in an "on-call" status. Employee may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, or holidays. Shift work may be required for this position.
  • During certain Hurricane Conditions (HURCON) or Force Protection Conditions (FPCON), employee may be required to man his/her post during the duration.
  • The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as walking and stair climbing. Employees engage in such exertion when climbing office building stairs, or walking foot in accomplishing building checks.
  • The work is primarily performed in an office like setting involving everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms.
  • The employee may be required to wear protective clothing such as coats, boots, and vests during extended periods of building checks in adverse weather conditions.
  • This position is a developmental (GS 3 target NK 02) position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the Specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Security Clerical and Assistance 0086, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Position located here.

GENERALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one (1) year or will have one year within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement at the next lower grade (GS-02), level, pay band (NK-01), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc). Generalized experience is described as: assisting with ensuring security credential requests are processed accurately and expeditiously; helping with performing quality reviews on the data and information submitted for consistency, completeness, and accuracy within regulatory requirements; assisting with determining appropriate recommendations for unresolved or questionable problems and performs follow-up; helping to process and protect sensitive information ensuring total confidentiality.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Knowledge of basic security processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of a standardized security methods for access/entry control specialist operations, procedures, and terminology to perform access control work independently in a variety of fixed-post and building check assignments.
  • Ability to learn organizational procedures sufficient to perform building checks and monitor the identification of persons entering controlled building areas.
  • Knowledge of one or more automated databases associated with a specific security function to support office and security operations.
  • Knowledge of general clerical and office functions and procedures, as well as the basic rules of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and standard abbreviations.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, follow instructions, and accomplish multiple ongoing tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously both orally and in writing.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-02 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-03 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
