  • You will employ active adult learning methodology to prepare and deliver graduate-level lectures and seminars on a variety of topics.
  • You will participate in the design, development, and synchronization of the College’s curriculum on topics related to security studies.
  • You will advise and assist students in a graduate-level advanced degree program that includes the design of a research plan, the development of written essays, and the presentation of an oral defense.
  • You will participate in scholarly panel discussions and other academic outreach activities.
  • You will conduct publishable research within the applicant’s field of expertise.
  • You will participate in service activities within EDCOM/MCU and the broader professional community.

Qualifications

AD-5 Candidates for Associate Professor must possess a doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in international relations, security studies, political science, national security, public policy, or related academic disciplines. The position requires advanced research and analytical skills to conduct original research, develop innovative academic programs, and publish scholarly works. Candidates must have teaching experience in a military and/or civilian educational institution.

AD-3 Candidates for Assistant Professor must possess or obtain, within one year of employment, an earned doctorate from an institution accredited by a Department of Education recognized institutional accrediting agency in a discipline appropriate to professional military education. Candidates must have specialized experience directly related to their PD.

Professional knowledge applicable to a wide range of duties with the broad functional areas of professional military education and academic administration is required, as is skill in using this knowledge in complex assignments that call for extended professional experience or graduate study. Candidates must be able to adapt and extend principles and practices to significant projects and problems for which there are no closely related precedents. Candidates must be able to independently plan, design, execute, and assess all aspects of assigned duties and responsibilities.

This opening will be filled under Title 10 Excepted Service, Assistant Professor, AD-03, or Associate Professor, AD-05, salary range: $113, 915-$148,708, which includes the current Local Market Supplement of 33.94%. Pay and title will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and MCU pay setting.

This is a Solicitation of Interest for qualified candidates to fill an excepted service Security Studies faculty position (Title 10) at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College (CSC), Marine Corps University. CSC is located in Warner Hall on the campus of the Marine Corps University, Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, located 35 miles south of Washington, DC.

The purpose and focus of effort of this Title 10 faculty position is to design, develop, coordinate, implement, instruct, and evaluate student performance in the functional area of Security Studies within a Joint Professional Military Education curriculum. This includes designing and teaching courses, leading seminars, and facilitating experiential learning activities. The incumbent will employ innovative teaching methodologies to ensure students develop critical thinking skills as well be able to educate students in knowledge and fluency of relevant scholarship. Faculty will help prepare professional military and interagency students to address the challenges in complex, dynamic environments for national security. Additionally, the incumbent will mentor and advise students, fostering their professional growth and leadership potential.
