Duties

  • You will install operating systems and all required and optional authorized software applications on all end user computing devices (e.g. workstations, laptops, tablets, smartphones, Internet connected devices).
  • You will evaluate, research, and report trends and patterns in customer support issues.
  • You will track, manage and report equipment inventories, life cycle management of hardware, software (and/or software licenses), and equipment disposal in accordance with policies and directives.
  • You will facilitate annual Information Assurance (IA) awareness training and assist the command in reporting loss or theft of information systems suspected of containing Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • You will assist staff in identifying and purchasing new equipment and services to meet operational needs and initiate, track, and reconcile Information Technology Purchase Requests (ITPR).

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Travel/Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) period is approximately 35%. A passport may be required.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Studying and analyzing unsatisfactory characteristics of presented items.

2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Providing advice and assistance to customers on the optimal use of the facility infrastructure, networks, and audio/video capabilities.

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Facilitating presentations, briefings, conferences, classes, and ceremonies.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Identifying deficiencies and recommending necessary changes.

In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Providing Information Technology (IT) technical and administrative support in troubleshooting, configuration, customer assistance, customer training, and/or account management; providing systems and equipment access; AND ensuring the application of information security policies and procedures when delivering customer support services.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of the specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify for the position based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education as follows:

  • I have successfully completed a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree OR
  • I have successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree OR
  • I have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
Note: Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
