Duties

Help
  • Determines the condition(s) issues, procedures and equipment necessary to best meet the needs of the individual case.
  • Receives and reviews requests from physicians and other health care providers for MRI examinations of patients.
  • Receives and positions patient for examination.
  • Selects, sets up, adjusts, and operates the MRI equipment.
  • Observes and reports patient responses to instructions, movement, and touch.

  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required, and an annual medical examination may be required thereafter.
  • This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 October 1996, which requires you to obtain Hepatitis B Immunization unless exempted by a physician.
  • This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • This position requires to maintain compliance with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and other specialized training in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing complex Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations of the head, spine, extremities, and body cavity including computerized 2D and 3D Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) Imaging of the vascular system; assisting with intravenous therapy; and providing support to radiologists and physicians in evaluating of x-ray results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-7).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Radiography or Radiologic sciences or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technology.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
