Prepares surgical case carts by pulling necessary supplies based off of preference cards.
Prior to patient entering the operating room, ensures primary equipment, such as robotic surgery platforms (including Thoracic ION robotic technology) are functional, operating, troubleshoots if necessary, and ensures the sterility of equipment.
Acts as a preceptor in order to facilitate the orientation of new technicians.
Serve as a scrub technician during surgery, selecting, assembling, and organizing the necessary instruments and equipment based on the surgical procedure and the surgeon’s preference card.
Clean operating room after surgery, removes and disposes of soiled and/or contaminated materials; changes linen; washes, disassembles, sterilizes, and reassembles instruments.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which assisting with the assembly of surgical equipment and instruments in the operating room; preparing equipment and supplies based on specific surgical procedure(s). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Certified Surgical Technician (CST) or higher level is preferred.

Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
