  • Reviews work of Offset Platemaker Strippers / Digital Journeyman Platemaker.
  • Creates and manipulates templates using Kodak Preps, Prinergy and Adobe Illustrator InDesign to vendor stringent specifications, proofs, punch and develops plates, assuring the processed plates are properly done.
  • Inspects plates for quality, page alignment, marks and registration to vendor specifications.
  • Produce progressive and composite proofs to verify creation of templates to vendor stringent specifications and approval.
  • Maintains plate processors and orders the necessary supplies needed for proper operation.

  • You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
  • Selectee may be required to pass preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
  • Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Selectee must undergo a background investigations for a Secret Clearance.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Report may be required.
  • Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
  • Physical - Effort: The work requires hand and eye coordination, standing, walking, bending, reaching, stretching, and lifting objects weighing up to 80 pounds (these objects are lifted with the help of another worker).
  • Physical Effort- Continued- Full arm, hand, wrist, and finger movement is also involved. Working Conditions: The primary duties are performed in an office setting.
  • Working Conditions: Hand cuts may occur when handling plates and skin irritation may result from contact from plate processing chemicals. Possible eye strain may result due to stray glare from high intensity lights used to expose plates.
  • Working Conditions continued: Platemakers may be subject to noises of nearby press operations, as well as exposed to unpleasant odors from chemicals used to develop the plates
  • Strength test required.
  • Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Physical Examination required

Qualifications

To qualify for the Head Platemaker Stripper, KO - 4416 - 00 , you must meet the following requirements:

Applicants must meet the following SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT: #1-Ability to do the work of a Head Plate Maker Stripper/Head Digital Platemaker without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) to be considered eligible for the position. Examples of the typical duties oof a Head Plate Maker Stripper include: 1) Reviewing work of Offset Platemaker Stripper/Digital Prepress Journeypersons, 2) Inspecting plates for quality, page alignment, marks and registration; 3) Creating templates, proofs, punch and manipulating plates using software such as; Kodak Preps, Prinergy and Adobe Illustrator InDesign, 4) Making necessary adjustments to ensure that quality meets or exceeds quality control standards; and 5) Possessing the ability to lead or train other Platemaker Stripper/Digital Prepress journeypersons.


In addition to the SCREENOUT requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with the Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Directive 615.2C (Appendix B):
1. Completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacant position.
2. At least 1 year of journeyperson experience after completion of the above apprenticeship or training.

3. Served a minimum of 1 year in a career or career-conditional appointment in GPO.



Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (08/22/2025) to be considered.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used or this grade level.

Background Investigation:
For a Secret Clearance:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Secret clearance. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Secret clearance. The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
