Duties

Help
  • You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of moderate to highly complex operational Fire alarm Systems.
  • You will troubleshoot and repair new systems during operational tests and uses expert skill and judgement to improvise procedures to resolve unforeseen problems or defects.
  • You will calculate proper notification coverage, wiring, monitoring, and control of fire alarm associated components in complex and integrated facility-level fire alarm/detection systems.
  • You will perform engineering technician-level calculations such as power supply capacity, standby current, battery load, voltage drop, and impedance of circuits in tested systems.
  • You will follow prescribed job plans for routine and reoccurring inspection, testing and maintenance procedures.
  • You will electronically document installs, maintenance, testing, repairs, inspections and impairments as required.

  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

FOR WAGE GRADE 11 POSITION ONLY: This position has a Selective Placement Factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The Selective Placement Factor is: Incumbent is required to possess, at time of onboarding,a National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level I certification in Inspection and Testing Fire Alarm systems. You must submit a copy of your certification with your application to be considered for this position.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Install, perform maintenance, and repair of moderate to highly complex operational Fire alarm Systems utilizing application of advanced electronic theory; 2) Troubleshoot and repair new systems during operational tests using expert skill and judgement to improvise procedures to resolve unforeseen problems or defects; 3) Utilizing and applying knowledge of International Code Counsel (ICC) International Building Code (IBC), NFPA 70 The National Electrical Code, NFPA 72 The National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code; 4) Applying knowledge of operation, capabilities, and limitations of fire alarm control equipment and systems to new or extensively modified systems; 5) Interpret, understand, and apply the various types of electrical wiring diagrams, specifications, schematics, sketches, blueprints, and drawings that are used in the fire protection trade; and 6) Compute voltage, amperage, resistance and capacitance factors of printed circuits and master alarm circuit components.


FOR WAGE GRADE 12 POSITION ONLY: Incumbent must demonstrate one of the following qualifying requirements has been met and is currently maintained. Qualified Personnel must meet the standards set in UFC 3-601-02Section 1-10.2.1.
Acceptable requirements are as follows:
1. A recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualifications for fire protection systems, such as National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II certification in Inspection and Testing Fire Alarm Systems, or Level II certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
2. A recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualifications for fire alarm systems, such as a formalized labor organization-based journeyman training, or similar programs.
3. A qualification or license from any state (or local jurisdiction if delegated authority by the state) and supporting continuing education if required by the local jurisdiction.

This position requires: Moderate lifting up to 40lbs, exposure to high noise levels, to obtain: within 12 months of appointment a National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II certification in Inspection and Testing Fire Alarm Systems.
