Help
  • Serves as a working leader over Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanics accomplishing trades and labor.
  • Responsible for scheduling and the control of preventative maintenance, unscheduled repairs and documentation for a fleet of over 2000 pieces of Materiel handling Equipment (MHE), and a variety of Heavy Mobile Equipment.
  • Uses diagnostic tools, orders parts, completes documentation, and provides training and assistance to others.
  • Passes on to other workers, instructions received from the supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods and starts work.
  • Works alongside mechanics, setting the pace performing the full range of overhaul and repair work on a variety of mobile industrial and fixed industrial equipment.
  • Checks work in progress and checks completed work for compliance with procedures, methods, and deadlines.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader your resume and supporting documentation must support:

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:

  • Instruct other workers on less complex work methods; refer to manuals as a means in answering questions related to the duties and responsibilities of the position; and adhere to all safety standards.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort: Same as work led. Is required to stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts items weighing more than 40 pounds.

Working Conditions: Same as work led. Works inside and outside; occasionally exposed to bad weather. Works a majority of time on concrete floors and in dirty, greasy and noisy areas. Is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks and burns.

The incumbent of this position has been designated as an emergency employee. The term "Emergency Employee" is used to designate those employees who must report to work in emergency situations. Emergency dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to these employees. The employees who occupy these positions may be required to report for duty in any situation that prevents significant numbers of employees in the local area from reporting for work on time or which requires agencies to close all or part of their activities.

Drug-Free Workplace Policy

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.

Applicants tentatively selected for employment in testing designated positions will undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Refusal to undergo testing or testing positive for illegal drugs will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and a six-month denial of employment with DLA from the date of the drug test. Employees in drug testing designated positions are subject to random drug testing.

The DLA drug testing panel tests for the following substances: marijuana, cocaine, opiates, heroin, phencyclidine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, fentanyl, norfentanyl, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), and opioids.

ADVISORY: Use of cannabidiol (CBD) products may result in a positive drug test for marijuana. DLA employees are subject to Federal law and under Federal law, Marijuana is a Schedule I drug and is illegal.
