This is a Term NTE 6 years position.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serves as an Engineering Technician within the Radiological Health Physics Regional Center of Expertise. Serves as an authority for onsite project activities, quality assurance, and safety matters.

Duties

Help
  • Identify common hazards related to general worker safety practices during demolition or remediation activities executed by tradesmen or craftsmen, and the equipment used, such as critical lifts, industrial machinery.
  • Provide general surveillance of quality assurance activities for demolition/remediation projects.
  • Determine work methods or approaches for conducting demolition or remediation of structures on land areas impacted by radioactive materials.
  • Serve as a consultant to personnel on the field engineering aspects the SM-1A Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning Project.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position requires the incumbent to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • The duties of this position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain a valid state Driver's License.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete or have completed the OSHA-mandated 40 hour training for hazardous waste site operations within 6 months of placement in this position.
  • Incumbent must pass physical for performing work in level "C" personal protection and maintain active participation in the Corps of Engineers medical surveillance program as mandated by OSHA.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience:
Incumbent must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Reviewing or assessing plans to execute critical lifts made with cranes or other material handling equipment; 2) Performance of quality assurance activities associated with demolition or construction projects; or 3) Implementing equipment or safety practices to ensure work is conducted in compliance with all appropriate safety regulations.
