You will serve as a IT CYBERSECURITY SPEC (SYSADMIN) and be responsible for planning and performance measurement, providing analysis, advice, and recommendations on matters pertaining to requirements for the Coast Guard Cryptologic Enterprise (CGCE).

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments in:

  • Develop and document systems administration standard operating procedure.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.
  • Check system hardware availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
  • Identify threat vulnerabilities.

Key Requirements:

  3. A one-year probationary period may be required.
  4. Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
  5. This position requires a Special Sensitive clearance.
  6. This is not a Bargaining Unit position.
  7. Time in Grade requirement must be met by the closing date of the vacancy.
  8. Security Requirements: This position must undergo and pass a Counterintelligence Polygraph.
  9. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduling drug test appointment. This is a Testing Designation Position (TDP).
  10. All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit.

Qualifications

I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, in addition to the four competencies above, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Installing, configuring, and updating hardware and software
  • Establishing and managing user accounts
  • Conducting backup and recovery tasks
  • Implementing operational and technical security controls
