Duties

Help

This position is located at the State's ARNG Intelligence and Security Office. This is an ARNG National Guard (ARNG) position requiring military membership. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Security Assistant, responsible for assisting in the personnel security clearances process and supporting an Administrator/Adjudicator with suitability adjudications /determinations for the fitness and suitability on individuals for entry and retention in sensitive and non-sensitive positions required by Army.

Provides clerical or administrative support for the reviewing, processing, and submission of security clearance applications to appropriate agency for security clearance investigations and to maintain and update clearance information on all personnel.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is a Title 32 Technician Vacancy that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Qualifications

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION OPEN TO THE FOLLOWING AREA OF CONSIDERATION (AOC):

Area of Consideration:
This position is open to Areas 1 Only.

Area 1: Current employees of the South Carolina Army National Guard (Tenure 1 and 2)
Area 2: Current members of the South Carolina Army National Guard
Area 3: Any individual eligible for membership in the South Carolina Army National Guard


GENERAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Clerical or administrative work which indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must have at least 12 months experience, education or training performing clerical or administrative duties in an office environment. Must have experience performing office functions using computers and automation systems. Experience working independently and setting priorities with very little supervisory control.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES:

- Attend the ARNG Security Manager Course within 12 months of hire.
- Obtain the Security Professional Certification(s) within 24 months of hire.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
- This is an Army National Guard dual status technician position which requires military membership

Education

Substitution of education for specialized experience - Completion of 2 academic years of education in an accredited college or university will satisfy the requirements for GS-4 positions. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience for GS-5 positions.
