This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help
  • Perform and operate the Radio-pharmacy to obtain certain radionuclides by eluting generator systems while maintaining sterile technique, according to manufacturer's written instruction and Nuclear Pharmacy SOP.
  • Administer the dose of radiopharmaceuticals to patients undergoing nuclear medicine procedures - either intravenously, orally or by inhalation.
  • Explain procedure as clearly as possible to the patient in a manner consistent with obtaining cooperation and allaying anxieties.
  • Set up imaging devices for studies in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Independently recognize anatomic and physiologic features and differentiates these variables from non-diagnostic data and alters data acquisition/manipulation for proper exam results.
  • Perform standard nuclear medicine dynamic, gated, static, or tomographic procedures on patients.
  • Operate imaging equipment in accordance with operation manuals.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires that an applicant be able to obtain and maintain a valid American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) certification or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT).
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be on-call based on the needs of the organization.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in performing identifying patient required nuclear medicine tests and treatments based on physician orders; preparing radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals appropriate for the particular diagnostic test or treatment to be performed; AND utilizing nuclear medicine equipment such as radiation detectors, scanner apparatuses, Gamma cameras, dose calibrators and survey meters to test and treat patients.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer Radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially they must 1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and 2) be certified as radiographers in their field.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
