Duties

Help
  • You will serve in the Toxicology (TOX) Directorate, Army Public Health Center (APHC), responsible for conducting multidisciplinary studies and providing expert biological or toxicological consultation services, responsible for the following:
  • Determines the abiotic and biological fate, transport, and toxicological effects of chemical compounds.
  • Isolates molecular structure and their notional compound influences.
  • Defines the pharmacological, toxicological, and developmental effects of various toxicants.
  • Performs Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships (QSARs), making toxicological, fate, and transport predictions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. THIS IS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY POSITION AND MAY BE FILLED WITH ANY OF THE BELOW OCCUPATIONS.

BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR BIOLOGIST (0401): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A. above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for the Toxicologist 0415 Series:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.

Specialized Experience GS-11:
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the federal service. Specialized experience.

Assisting conducting toxicology or biological assessments; providing assistance on the management of programs in areas such as biological or toxicological studies; and ensure compliance with laws and regulations dealing with areas such as hazardous, toxic materials, and/or waste management.

Specialized Experience Requirements: GS 12
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience

Evaluating/analyzing toxicological and/or biological data; conducting scientific studies in the areas of pharmacology, biology, and/or toxicology; and assisting in the development of in vitro and/or in vivo test designs.

Specialized Experience Requirements: GS 13
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service. Specialized experience

Evaluating/analyzing toxicological and/or biological data; conducting scientific studies in the areas of pharmacology, biology, and/or toxicology; and leading in the development of in vitro and/or in vivo test designs.

This position will be filled as a GS-11, GS -12 or GS-13, at management's selection. If selected at the developmental GS-11 or GS-12 level, promotion to the next grade level will be at management's discretion following time-in grade requirements, training, performance, and experience.

Full performance level is GS-13. If selected at less than the full performance level, promotion to the full performance is subject to meeting regulatory requirements such as time-in-grade, training, and performance and is at management's discretion.
