Summary

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages the activities for the Beneficiary Travel Program;
  • Administers beneficiary travel program benefits to beneficiaries and their attendants who meet eligibility criteria;
  • Utilizes various software applications to accurately determine and/or verify Veteran eligibility;
  • Provides assistance to Veterans utilizing Beneficiary Travel Self Service System (BTSSS);
  • Determines which of several Fund Control Points (FCP) to use, entering authorizations, maintaining manual and electronic accounting records;
  • Performs regular reconciliations and adjusting account balances;
  • Coordinate's patient transfer with other VAs ensuring the patient arrives at a specified time for admission;
  • Forwards correspondence to receiving facility travel department and/or physician via itinerary or stated preferences with destination and time;
  • Serves as record keeper and coordinator of patient funds on deposit;
  • Reviews requests for reimbursement of travel costs;
  • Writes or selects appropriate letters explaining disposition of unauthorized travel claims;
  • Prepares appropriate documentation and/or scheduling for traveler according to government transportation availability, government rates or substantial rates;
  • Collects, organizes, tracks and counts all beneficiary travel reimbursement forms and other documentation/information from various locations throughout the facility;
  • Performs other directly related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is determining eligibility, processing reimbursements, and managing or assisting with the management of funds. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary, however some walking and standing may be required. Work is performed in a medical center setting where there can be contact with patients who may have emotional disorders as well as communicable illnesses. There is a hectic interaction with other staff in the office which may cause anxiety as well as mental and emotional stress.
