  • Works in a Child and Youth Services (CYS) Sports and Fitness program, assists in the management and delivery of CYS Sports and Fitness initiatives (team sports, individual sports, fitness and health, outreach, motor skills activities etc.).
  • Applies professional knowledge to assist in the planning, implementation, and supervision, of a comprehensive program that promotes positive growth and development of children and youth.
  • Assists in the development of a broad program of recruitment, training and certification, and management of volunteer coaches and officials for various sports.
  • Supervises and evaluates assigned staff based on established performance standards. Provides appropriate professional recognition and/or disciplinary action.
  • Works cooperatively with other managers to ensure seamless service and continuity of quality options for children and youth.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at time of appointment or placement into the position.
  • Proof of education is required at the time of application.
  • Good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease (verified through physical examination). Immunizations must be current including annual influenza vaccinations.

  • Must obtain/maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.
  • Must possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment is subject to completion of a favorable suitability determination.
  • Any individual who was required to register with selective service and who has not registered or knowingly and willingly did not register before the requirement terminated or become inapplicable to the individual will not be appointed.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must complete a health assessment including all required immunizations.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or higher which included a major course of study or at least 24 semester hours in Physical Education.

OR

All of the following equivalent in scope and complexity to the next lower grade level:

1. At least one year of experience assisting in the delivery of a comprehensive sports and fitness or physical education program
which included children and youth. This experience may have been gained in a school/college, community, institutional, or
recreational setting.
2. Experience coaching child/youth sports or in training coaches in accordance with nationally recognized (i.e., NAYS, NYS, NYSCA)
requirements.
3. Experience in the delivery of or demonstrated knowledge in the requirements for age-appropriate health and fitness programs
for children/youth.
4. Experience working with schools, community organizations, or other partnering organizations to coordinate initiatives for
children/youth.

In addition to meeting one of the requirements above, highly qualified candidates will submit resumes and/or proof of education that reflect:
1. A Bachelor's degree or higher which included a major course of study or at least 24 semester hours in coursework directly related to
children or youth (i.e., PE for children, motor skills development, childhood development, early/elementary/secondary education,
health/nutrition for children, child/adolescent psychology, etc.);
OR
2. At least two years of experience directing or assisting in the delivery of a comprehensive sports and fitness or physical education program which included children and youth.

Best qualified candidates will submit resumes that reflect at least 2 years of experience working in a Dept of Defense CYS Youth Sports and Fitness Program.

PCS Costs
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is in the Government's interest.
Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials
  • This is a pay-banded position.
  • Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
  • Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.
Incentives and Bonuses
  • As an added employee incentive, the Department of Defense (DoD) granted approval to extend temporary limited commissary privileges (excluding the purchase of tobacco or alcohol products) to CYS employees. This temporary approval expires 31 December 2025.
  • All CYS employees will receive a 100% discount on their first child's childcare fee.
    • Flex employees must work a minimum of 15 hours per week to receive the discount.
Other:

  • This is a Regular Full-Time position with a minimum work week of 40 hours and eligible for benefits.
