DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works as a Recreation Assistant (Ski Instructor) at the Edelweiss Lodge & Resort (EL&R), Hausberg Lodge, instructing groups and individuals in daily and weekly ski and snowboard programs, using a variety of teaching methods to effectively communicate to students who have a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. Teaches children as well as adults. Teaches all courses using the PSIA American Teaching system.

The safety of the students must always be the number one priority. Is responsible for ticket handling for groups of students and must maintain good internal control practices to track these tickets effectively.

Assists with program registration, tournaments, equipment issues, ski lift and snow making operations, shuttle driving duties, and cleaning duties.

Must be familiar with all programs offered by EL&R, as well as be familiar with the local area, as the job requires providing a lot of information to guests. Must always maintain a positive attitude around and towards guests in order to project a positive image for EL&R and its programs.

Report any problems to the Ski School director as soon as possible to maintain a high-quality service to our guests.

Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Must be willing to work irregular work schedule (nights/weekends/holidays)
  • Must be able to obtain a valid USAREUR driver's license.
  • All required background checks of AR215 -3, Chapter 2, paragraph 213: i. must be satisfactory completed and maintained to include the initiation/completion of Child and Youth National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI).
  • Must have or be able to obtain an American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED.
  • Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry 40 pounds, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis. Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens, hold a valid U.S. passport, and be at least 18 years of age.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE CLEARLY VERIFIABLE IN YOUR RESUME.

Must be an advanced skier or snowboarder with at least one season of documented experience as a ski or snowboard instructor. Certification from a recognized professional instructor organization is preferred.

Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. A good working knowledge of the German language is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Must have or be able to obtain an American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED, as well as a USAREUR driver's license.

Education

High School graduate or equivalent.

Additional information

This is a limited-tenure position not to exceed 18 months. It is an unaccompanied program because we cannot provide logistical support to family members. Dorm-style housing is provided in lieu of a living quarters allowance. Transportation to and from Germany is provided in accordance with the terms of the Joint Travel Regulation and the executed transportation agreement. Military spouses and family members currently residing within the Garmisch Military Community who apply under this announcement will be considered for a regular appointment.

  • All Federal NAF employees are required by PL 104-134 to have salary payments made by electronic funds transfer/direct deposit.
