The U.S. Capitol Visitor Center is the public’s front door to the U.S. Capitol, offering tours and education programs as well as supporting congressional events. Our goal is to inform, involve and inspire every visitor to the U.S. Capitol. This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief Executive Officer for Visitor Services, Visitor Services Division, Reservations and Scheduling Branch. What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will develop daily operational schedules for the Visitor Services Division of the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC), you will coordinate tour reservation requests and support Information Desk operations, and you will assist with the development of staff schedules in support of Congressional special events.

As a Scheduling Assistant, you will:     

  • Utilize the Advance Reservation System (ARS) to input thousands of reservations into a database.
  • Communicate with a variety of individuals via phone, email, and in person to provide expert guidance on how to book a tour and obtain tour passes to the U.S. Capitol.
  • Resolve reservation scheduling conflicts or special accommodation issues as requested.
  • Conduct searches in the ARS database and compile tour and visitation data to determine tour availability and periods of low, moderate, high and peak visitor flow
  • Make, modify, and cancel tour reservations.
  • Assist the Scheduling Manager in developing, forecasting and scheduling the most efficient and appropriate schedule for Visitor Guides and Visitor Assistants.
  • Alert the direct manager of controversial situations or problems that could impact operations.
  • Serve as a liaison for Congressional staff in communications related to the CVC assisting with special congressional events.
  • Provide support and collaboration with other division officials to ensure consistency in the delivery of services and contributes to the efficiency of the CVC mission.

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
 
Candidates for the GS-09 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Develop, forecast and edit daily employee and/or special event schedules.
  • Proficient use of computers and system databases to enter, retrieve, compile and analyze data.
  • Coordinate and communicate with high profile customers related to tours and assisting with special events.
  • Communicate with a variety of individuals via phone, email, and in person to provide expert guidance on a process or system.
