Duties

Help
  • Works under general supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as a Recreation Assistant, instructing groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor recreation programs.
  • Such as but not limited to rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, challenge course, using a variety of teaching methods to effectively communicate to participants who have a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.
  • Teaches children as well as adults. Incumbent is responsible for group management. The safety of the participants must always be the number one priority.
  • Must be familiar with all programs offered by Outdoor Recreation, as well as be familiar with local area as the position requires providing information to customers.
  • Reports any problems to the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as soon as possible in order to maintain a high quality service to guests.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position may require a health screening. Immunizations may be required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED training certification
  • Must be able to work weekends, nights, US and Germany holidays and MWR Special Events.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Qualifications

Must have knowledge of and experience in a wide variety of Outdoor Recreation pursuits. Applicants pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field, and in the process of completing an internship or fieldwork program will be considered highly qualified.

Highly Preferred
- Experience and knowledge with rock climbing and paintball
- Experience of basic ski and/or snowboarding techniques to assist customers in basic ski/snow acitivities
- Prior experience with collegiate and/or a military outdoor recreation program

PCS Costs
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
Pay-Band Allowances and Differentials
  • Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. Sunday premium may be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
  • Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Night differential may be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.
Incentives and Bonuses
  • Incentives will not be paid.
Foreign Overseas Allowances
  • Allowances, differentials, or incentives will not be paid.
  • Post allowance may be paid in accordance with the Department of States Standardized Regulations (DSSR), contingent upon eligibility.
